We use a profile application and account-per-character system on Beyond the Pale.
Before creating, make sure you've read our rules and made an OOC account.
Profile Guide
Faceclaims
Faceclaims are images (or sets of images) used to portray a character. We require every character to have a unique faceclaim. Each faceclaim can only be used by one character at a time, except in cases of twins or kits using younger photos of their parent's faceclaim. To view current faceclaims in use, please visit our claims list.
At this time, we allow photos (manipulated or not) and artwork to be used as faceclaims.
Photo Faceclaims
Photos are the primary choice of faceclaim on Beyond the Pale. We only allow members to use photos that are under the Creative Commons license or photos that you have specifically been given permission to use (often called in the community "perms.")
Some suggested websites to search for Creative Commons photos:
- Flickr (ensure only searching Creative Commons)
- Pexels
- Pixabay
- Unsplash
Photo Manipulation
Photo manipulations (called "manips") are allowed on the site. Please ensure that if you're using Creative Commons photos that the license allows for adaptions.
Art Faceclaims
Artwork may be used as a faceclaim instead of a photo. We ask that your character's design is semi-realistic unless otherwise described by staff (such as in kitten mutations.) You must have the rights to use the character artwork or design, either because you are the artist or you commissioned the artwork. You may use artwork from other sources if you have explicit permission from the original artist.
Unless otherwise specified, we ask that you follow the art guidelines below:
- Natural pelt colors
- Natural eye colors
- A semi-realistic pelt pattern (i.e. tabby, calico, spotted, pointed)
We currently give creative allowances for:
- Unusual markings, color patterns or spotting
- Unlikely pelt/eye color combinations (i.e. a black cat with blue eyes)
Character Names
Within clans, we use a semi-traditional naming system. Additionally, we allow the same prefix to be used multiple times on the site, including within the same clan. However, due to Jcink's account registration limitation, there can be no accounts with the same name at the same time. You may circumvent this by using a hyphen between your character's name. (i.e. Coalpaw and Coal-paw.)
We use a semi-traditional naming system. This means:
- Your character's prefix must be related to your character's physical appearance.
- Your character's suffix must be related to your character's physical appearance, skills or personality.
Additionally, we allow unusual prefixes and suffixes to be used in WindClan. Due to their urbanization, prefixes related to twolegs and the city are more common than prefixes related to nature. For example, prefixes such as Dorito-, Spatula-, Pot-, Hamburger- and Candle- are common.
As of XX moons, Inkstar has allowed unusual suffixes to be used within WindClan as an expression of their culture. If your character was been recently made a warrior, you may use a unique non-traditional suffix.
For additional information, please refer to our Naming guide.
